The Town of Drumheller is rich in its history, its roots as deep as the coal mines themselves.
In 1919, the Drumheller and District Board of Trade was established. Its first president was W.R. Cumming. Many indviduals played a major part in the Board, including T.S. Branson, who held the position of Secretary from 1919-1924. Another dedicated member of the Board was John A. MacKay, who was Secretary of the Board continuously from 1926-1945.
The Board's slogan was: "It is good and loyal citizenship to be an active member of Your Board of Trade."
The Board of Trade was broken into many individual committees including the following:

- Retail Merchants
- Roads
- New Industries
- Reception and Entertainment
- Membership and Finance
- Motor, Aviation & Tourist
- Publicity
- Post-War Reconstruction and Rehabilitation
Representatives were on the following boards:
- Region No. 9
- Alberta Post-War Construction
- Welfare Board
- Drumheller Community Centre Association
