Newcastle Country Inn

What made you decide to start your own company?

Sukhpreet: Although we only opened in January 2022, we both have been in the hospitality business before. We are both management graduates and wanted to put our learning's there to practical use. I first came to Drumheller in 2012 and it's been our home ever since. My kids studied here and this a a wonderful place to raise family as we got love from everyone here. Also, considering that Drumheller is a tourist town,  it made absolute sense to set up a business here  and stay because of the community. Our aim is to always make people feel at home and we take pride in hosting our seniors.

What is one thing people are surprised to learn about your business?

Sukhpreet: People don’t expect breakfast can be so good. They only anticipate a continental breakfast, but we make sure we cook something hot. Pancakes, sausages, quinoa patties, some organic stuff, you name it.  We also serve different types of fresh fruits everyday. We have also been complimented on the cleanliness of our place. Our place is most suitable for seniors and adults and we keep it as clean as possible with harmless cleaning products. Our motto is

"A guest is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work – he is the purpose of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us the opportunity to do so" - Mahatma Gandhi

Daljit: My motto is if I’m serving my family something healthy, I should give our guests something healthy as well. It gives me the most satisfaction when I know they are being taken care of.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve experienced as a business and how did you overcome it?

Daljit: The Inn was closed for awhile and a lot of people come over here expecting we haven’t opened yet. So were taking more steps to let people know we are up and running. Also, we built new social media pages and were having difficulties getting new clientele. Creating social media presence for a new account takes a bit of time and we look forward getting more traction.

Are there any products/services you would like to advertise?

Sukhpreet: For July, we 5% off on minimum 2 nights stay for Seniors only. Proof of age may be requested in this case.

What do you value the most being a Chamber of Commerce member?

Sukhpreet: We are closely knit community and we appreciate the Chamber’s work. They help us find more opportunities and give us reliable sources to work with.
